Facts About Acne - August 31st, 2009

Acne.  When you struggle with acne, you feel that all anyone sees is the acne, and not you.  Although it is not your fault that you have acne, there are a few things that you can do to help the outbreaks be controlled.

Watch what you eat

For me, the more processed food I ate, the worse my outbreaks were.  Heavy, greasy foods would make my flare-ups last longer.  Eating a balanced diet with minimal fast foods may help minimize your acne.  Drinking plenty of water will also help your body and skin stay hydrated and allow your skin to behave as it should.

Be Aware of Your Cycle

I am 40 years old and still get pimples!!  They seem to accompany my monthly “friend”.  If you are more prone to breakouts during that time, it really is best to just keep your regular cleansing routine, since they usually go away when your cycle does.

Don’t pick!

As tempting as it is, DON’T pick at your blemishes!  This may make them more prominent than they need to be! It is much easier to see a blemish with a scab!  You may also be causing scarring!

Try the products available

There are quite a few products on the market designed to control acne.  Try them out!  Seek out reviews online to see what other people have had success with.  You are not alone in your battle with acne.

See your doctor

If nothing seems to be helping your acne, then it is time to see your doctor or dermatologist. You may need more intensive treatment to bring your acne under control.
